I'm a part-time nurse, mom to a beautiful boy & two fur babies, military wife, photo lover and wannabe world traveler. As a military brat myself, I moved around a lot when I was younger but always considered Virginia Beach my home, which is where I moved to upon my high school graduation. I pursued a nursing degree and upon acceptance into nursing school, I was selected for a five-week study abroad program based in Faial, Portugal. This is where my love for photography began.
I bought my first camera prior to traveling to Portugal and took out my first credit card to purchase it. I took some of my favorite photos on this trip and knew that photography would be a part of my life, even if just a hobby. I graduated nursing school in 2018 and started my nursing career in Virginia Beach. In 2019 I met my husband, Steven, on none other than the dating app Bumble (Bumble success story!) and got married in 2021. Steven is active duty military, and right after getting married, we moved to Seattle, Washington. We were sadly only in Washington for a year but it was long enough for us to fall in love with the PNW and all the beauty that it had to offer.
One year later, we moved to sunny San Diego. We welcomed our rainbow baby, Griffin, in March 2023 and he's been our sun even on the rainiest of days. At a yoga class one day, I was staring up at the ceiling while thinking of what "intention" I wanted to set for that yoga class and I just had an epiphany that if I was going to be away from my son for work, I wanted to enjoy what I was doing. And nursing was just causing a lot of burn out, stress and anxiety. I decided I didn't want to be 60 years old looking back on my life and regret that I didn't even give photography a chance. Experiencing pregnancy and becoming a first time mom gave me a whole new perspective on motherhood and is what pushed me in the direction of lifestyle, motherhood and newborn photography. I decided I wanted to pursue my passion of photography and make it more than just a hobby.
"Every shot has to be posed and smiling at the camera." A lot of my clients come to me and tell me they just need one good family photo of everyone looking at the camera. While I do capture these posed photos that are requested, I've found that after delivery of the gallery, the photos the clients seem to like the most are the candid, unprompted photos. These types of photos capture authentic emotions and real-life moments, offering a true reflection of my client's personality and experiences. They reveal genuine expressions - laughter, surprise, affection - that often go unnoticed in staged settings. These spontaneous images evoke a sense of connection and storytelling, preserving the beauty of everyday life in its rawest form.
I am a self-taught photographer and I've invested a lot of time and money into my photography education to make sure I am a reputable and trusted photographer. I've mentored with a local newborn photographer, Sophie Crew, to learn the ins and outs of newborns, including posing, editing, safety and more. I have a certification in Newborns and Newborn Posing Safety. I've taken photography courses online to include Katelyn James' Lighting & Location Course, and the KJ Starter Course, as well as The Milky Way's Newborn Essentials Masterclass.
"Molly made us feel really comfortable right off the bat! She was super nice and laid back which made getting our picture taken really easy. I think overall she captured our family well. I loved the location that we chose and I think the pictures turned out incredible!"
