Capturing Motherhood at Mission Trails Regional Park

Nestled in the heart of San Diego, Mission Trails Regional Park offers an idyllic setting for a maternity session. With its rugged landscapes, golden hills, and tranquil trails, the park provides the perfect backdrop to celebrate the beauty of motherhood.

Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing a glowing mom-to-be at this breathtaking location. It was my first maternity session that was not at the beach and I was up for the challenge! The result was a gallery filled with warmth, love, and natural beauty.

When Elizabeth reached out to me, she wanted a location that was more comfortable for her and her husband. Her and her husband were from the Midwest so they wanted something that encompassed the Midwest rolling hills. I had had Mission Trails Regional Park on my list of desired locations for a while and when she reached out, I knew this was the perfect spot for her session.

Mission Trails offers a variety of scenic options, from sweeping open fields to lush greenery and dramatic fallen tree trunks. This diversity allowed for creative compositions that highlighted Elizabeth while blending seamlessly with nature.

For this session, we chose the early afternoon for that dreamy golden-hour glow. The soft, diffused sunlight bathed the park in warm hues, creating a magical ambiance.

Our session began along the Oak Canyon Trail, a serene pathway lined with trees and wildflowers. We found a downed tree trunk that was a perfect location for some solo shots of just the mommy-to-be. The sun peeked over the mountains to create beautiful background light.

We were able to have three outfit changes during this session which allowed for more diversity in photos with the range of backdrops available at this one location. The blush-colored gown beautifully complemented the earthy tones of the landscape, the white sweater dress provided focus to be on baby bump, and the simple jeans and bra provided a more casual look. As she posed against the backdrop of rolling hills, her and her husband’s joy and anticipation were palpable. These images were a testament to the beauty of motherhood and the timeless appeal of Mission Trails.
